Today Cypress.io has announced that they are being acquired by the storied John Deere corporation to "extend their equipment quality and software testing capabilities to better serve their customers in agriculture and forestry industries". To be honest, I am surprised it has not happened earlier.
John Deere has always put an emphasis on smart software being the integral part of their overall equipment offer. Sometimes it even went overboard, like the customers unable to even fix their own tractors due to software restrictions. Modern tractors often combine sophisticated software, including embedded and web systems. With this acquisition, John Deere has shown that they are serious about quality, end-to-end testing, and customer experience.
Still no word on the financial aspects of the deal, but I expect every Cypress long-term employee to walk away with a generous fleet of farm equipment, from small excavators to planters.
